Volkswagen The Outrageous Corporate Scandal Of 2015

Volkswagen: The most outrageous corporate scandal of 2015 There is a very fine line between what is morally right or wrong. As a student of this subject, I believe it all depends on a company’s ethical conduct that how likely it’s going to perform in the long run (Bob Worcester, 2007). The ‘week 4’ assignment enabled me introspect myself and bring out some of the core ethical values which I believe are inherited by me and should be inculcated by all business leaders. These core ethical values are honesty, fair/rational behaviour, dedication, emotional intelligence and bravery. Sometimes, values such as honesty and rationalism can be difficult to abide in all situations but such ethical practices build grounds of trust and loyalty with people who take interest in the business such as staff, external competitors, shareholders, customers and other entities (Chron. Alyson Paige). When employers deal honestly and rationally with their staff, employees are motivated to drive the business forward. Creditors and investors express confidence by funding company development and consumer confidence is positive. As a consequence, their organizations will have a greater chance at achieving longevity and profitability (Jean Thilmany, 2007). But, when it comes to profit making, desire to get ahead of competitors or just to capture a larger market share, even the greatest market giants such as ‘Enron’ can be easily driven to adopt an unethical conduct of business (Chris MacDonald, 2006).Show MoreRelatedThe Impact Of Corporate Politics On The Corporate World Essay1526 Words   |  7 PagesOver the years, the corporate world has been and continues to be plagued with high profile scandals and unethical business practices on the pretext of creating social and business values. For most global companies, corporate social responsibility and sustainability have become mere watchwords despite the fact they claim being their prominent company agendas. The reality is companies are too blind and ruthless to draw lessons from the past. Exxon’s Climate change controversy(1980’s), Nike’s sweatshop

There is one habit that have had for years I don’t like anything dirty or out of place in my home and it is a must that the toilet seat or seats remain close I cannot stand for these things to happen in my home. If things are not put back where they belong I will ask who had the item and explain to them that the house doesn’t look clean when things are out of place. I know that this is a bit extreme but this is how feel about these situations. We will write a custom essay sample on Behavorial Paper or any similar topic only for you Order Now I believe that I develop this from my mother, when was very young I can remember how my mother keeping our home very, very clean it was almost sterile. All the walls were white, and the carpet was a gold color tit white furniture and everything was so neat and she kept it that way. All the children participated in keeping those white walls clean. If there was company coming over and you were at home you would have to dust and sweep all floors before company arrived. I think have modeled myself after my mother in many ways, I have aunties and cousins but they did not play a part in influencing this behavior. There are things like fussing about stuff, that catch myself doing that reminds me of my mother and I have also been told by others that have a lot of her traits and ways. However know that I didn’t get way I feel about toilets from her. While know that I have become a bit excessive about my habits continue to do them because I cannot concentrate if the house is dirty or out of place and I truly get mad about the toilet being open, it has become normal to me, so normal that when go over other family members home put their toilet seat down and I may clean up something over their house when all was doing is visiting. I have not tried to break the habit of cleaning but I have tried to calm it down a bit, because I onto want to offend anyone when am at their home. In away I am glad I adapted my cleanliness from my mother, but don’t understand or know why can’t stand the toilet seat open, I even have my family to tell people that come over to make sure they put the seat down after they use the bathroom. From what I can remember my mother has always taught us to be very neat and clean. Saturday was always the clean-up day the consist of wiping walls and windows down and whatever else she wanted you to do. No one could leave until the whole house was done inside and out. This was done very Saturday. To this day I clean my house very Saturday it is a habit and if I know company is on the way I still dust and vacuum the floor. I know that watching my mother for years condition me to be particular about how I like my surroundings to be, but somehow I got extreme with it. This was my observational learning. Thought that this is how a person is supposed to be because that’s all knew. Thought that the reason people came over was because they liked how our house was because would her them always say how beautiful everything was. In my mind I thought this is what she wanted them to say. I like to hear those compliments too when have someone at my home. This was the self-regulation process. Since I felt that this was a good thing I was even happier to know that I was able to do these things like my mother did. This is self-efficacy. Believe that I am good at making my surroundings good and neat and my mother likes how keep my home. This makes my mother happy to know that followed in her footsteps and in return I’m happy that she likes that about me. This is self-system While I feel hat my habits are good I know that they affect my house when I get extreme with my cleaning and making sure the toilet seat in closed. I have to realize that am not the only one living in this house and everybody that comes to my home does not know that I want the seat down after they use the bath room. So my plan is to understand that and try not to get so irritated if the seat is up. I have to say that the behavioral theories best explains my personality The habits that I have learned were observed as a child my mother raised me to do things a certain way. I looked at what she taught me as something positive. As a child it didn’t make me sad or happy it was a way of life for me and I stayed with me. Learned from situations and advice given to me by family members I have always been so what quiet and observant I was perfect I also got in trouble sometimes. But when I saw my siblings get in trouble that was my cue to straighten up. There are different ways that people developed their habits sometimes your environment may play a parts of your personality, how a person is raised, where a person is raised, even ho raised an individual can affect your personality. Aztecs (1473 words) Essay Example For Students

Aztecs (1473 words) Essay AztecsThe AztecsAround 1168 AD, a Nahua tribe called the Aztecs left their mysterious homeland known as Aztl?n and migrated south to Central Valley. At first the Aztecs were practically enslaved by the other Nahua tribe, but they continued to struggle for power. By the 1300s the Aztecs had founded two different settlements on Islands in lakes. These places are known as Tlaltetalco and Tenochtitl?n. By the 15th century Tenochtitl?n was the center of the Aztec world. By the 16th century Tenochtitl?n dominated all the other cities in Central Valley. The middle of the Aztec Empire was near the Lerma River. This plateau is made up of five different sections; the volcanic axis lies across the southern part of the plateau. This area still has active volcanoes; they receive a lot of rain and have fertile soil. The bajio is located just north of the volcanic axis; it has an average elevation of 7,000 feet. This is where the Aztec capital Tenochtitl?n was located. Accounting for more than half of the plateau is the Mesa Del notre. The Mesa Del notre has an average elevation of 9,000 feet. Along the western ridge of the plateau is the Sierra Madre Occidental. The Sierra Madre Occidental is a long mountain chain that protected the Aztecs from outside invaders. Along the eastern side of the plateau is the Sierra Madre Oriental. The Aztec capital receives anywhere between 30 50 cm. Temperatures range from 10 15 degrees centigrade in winter, to 20 25 degrees centigrade in summer. Aztec society was divided into three classes, the slaves, the common people, and the nobility. The Slave class was mostly made up of criminals and POWs. Slaves could obtain freedom in two ways. The first was to buy it. The second way was to try to escape from their masters. If they reached the royal palace without being caught, they were immediately given their freedom. The commoners, also known as the Maceualtin were given ownership of a plot of land to build a house. The tlalmaitl were the lowest group of the commoners, and werent allowed to own any land Instead they were inhabit farmers. The nobility was made of people who were born nobles, priests, and warriors who earned their rank. The nobles served as officials, judges, and governors of conquered provinces. Nobility enjoyed special privileges like nice feather cloaks and gold jewelry. Family Life was very important to the Aztecs. The man of the house built the house and was a farmer of a craftsman. The woman prepared food, cared for children, made clothing, and looked after livestock. Barren women were looked down upon. At birth the midwife would give a speech while cutting the umbilical cord. She told the baby that he was going to be a warrior and feed enemies blood to the sun. Four days after birth the father called an astrologer, who told him the day that they should have the naming ceremony. Education was also very important to Aztecs. As children boys received instructions from the elders. They were taught the names of the things in the baskets they carried. They were also taught how to carry things for their mother and go to the market with their father. Girls were trained for marriage. They were shown how to weave a loom, how to make cloth to support the family. Self-control and discipline were taught at home and punishments were very severe. Children were sometimes beaten, or held over fire and made to inhale bitter smoke. Sometimes they were tied up naked and left of the wet ground for an entire day. .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb , .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb .postImageUrl , .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb , .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb:hover , .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb:visited , .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb:active { border:0!important; } .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb:active , .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u195f7a91882b17916459a2e2c3a67ddb:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Foreign worker in malaysia EssayA rulers daughter had to walk around without picking up her head. Young unmarried woman needed permission to see their fathers. The parents of two families arranged weddings. The punishment for adultery was death by stoning or strangulation. The head of the Aztecs was known as the great speaker. A council of wise men in a democratic fashion decided his heir. The great speaker was the head of the government and the main priest. Aztec tribes were divided into families and clans. Each clan had elected officials and sent representatives to the council of the tribe. The council elected officials to govern the four quarters, or phratries that the city was organized in. The council elected the supreme chief who led the tribe in wars and alliances. A second chief was in charge of internal affairs. The chiefs were selected from powerful families. The Aztec government was an autocracy. The Aztecs ate mostly corn, which was ground into flour and made into tortillas. They also ate sage seeds, very spicy peepers, eggs, turkey, rabbit, dog, lizards, snails, and fish eggs. They drank mostly water, but on occasion they had beer. Nobility drank chocolate that was sweetened with honey. Mexicans today also include a lot of corn in their diets. Clothing indicated what class people belonged to. The rich had clothing made out of cotton, while the poorer had cheaper maguey fibers. The men wore a cloak that was tied on one shoulder, almost like a toga, and cloth on their hips. The woman wore sleeveless shirts and wraparound skirts. The Aztecs were warriors. In some ways it was connected to their religion. During was they captured prisoners for sacrifice, punish tributary tribes, and gain new land. Failure in battle was a disgrace and usually led to their sacrifice. Farmers grew corn, beans, avocados, squashes, potatoes and tomatoes. In the lowlands they grew cotton, papayas, and cacao. The Aztecs used the slash and burn method of farming. Farmers made huge irrigation systems. The marketplace was in the middle of Aztec life. The market Tlatelolco was the largest in the Americas. As many as 60,000 people visited the market in a single day. Everything was bought and sold in the market. The Aztecs bartered, and some believe that they used cacao as a form of money. The Aztecs invented the wheel but they didnt use it for transportation. Wheels were used in toys. They carried most things on their backs. Religion dominated Aztec life. The Aztecs were cannibals, and ate the flesh of their victims of war. They believed that they would absorb the virtues of the slain victims. The Aztecs performed human sacrifice. The most important form of sacrifice was tearing out the heart of the victim with a knife made of obsidian, volcanic glass. The sacrificed victims were thought to win a high place in paradise. Aztecs went after prisoners in war, rather than killing the enemy, because it allowed them to make more sacrifices. The Aztecs were polytheistic and worshiped gods who personified the forces of nature. The get help from the gods the Aztecs performed rituals and ceremonies. The head of all the Aztec gods was Huitzilopochtli, the god of the sun and war. The Aztecs believed that if he fought the forces of darkness and regenerated in the morning. This is where the need for human sacrifice plays a role. The Aztecs believed that in order for Huitzilopochtli to continue fighting the forces of da rkness, he needed human sacrifices. Human sacrifice was very important because it kept the favor of the gods. Since life was mans most important possession, logically it would be the best gift for the gods. At the dedication of the great pyramid temple in Tenochtitl?n 20,000 POWs were sacrificed. The priests slid open the body and tore out the victims hearts. Some other gods were Taloc the god of rain, Tezcatlipoca the god of wind, and Quetzalcoatl. All the gods had their own ceremonies, prayers, sacrifices, and holidays. In the 16th century the Aztec Empire was at its peak. Under the rule of Montezuma the second, the Aztecs welcomed in the Spanish, led by Cortes. Later Montezuma plotted against Cortes and Cortes had him thrown in jail. The Aztecs revolted against the Spanish and during the revolt Montezuma was killed. In 1521 Cortes, with the aid of 1,000 Spanish soldiers and thousands of Indian allies defeated the Aztecs, and the Aztec Empire collapsed immediately. A myth tells us that the Aztecs only lost to the Spanish because the white people were gods. BibliographyAschmann, Homer. ?Mexico? Watching the Movie Baraka Essay Example For Students

Watching the Movie Baraka Essay Watching â€Å"Baraka† was both a worthwhile and painful experience. When I say painful, I dont mean it was physically painful for me to sit there but I mean that it was hard for me to process a lot of what was going on in the film because of what it meant to me. The scenes were so powerfull that they could take me back to 2 years ago when I was struggling with depression. It made me feel nostalgic about something that was so unhealthy. However, the cinematography and art of the film made it all worth it, it showed me so many different sides of humanity; it showed us the art of being human and the art of our earth. It was funny to me that this non-narrative film was released in 1992, it was funny that a film from 22 years ago still connected with its audience of today, it still connected with the me and I’m just 16. Maybe change can happen physically to our world but our emotions will always coincide. We will write a custom essay on Watching the Movie Baraka specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now The first scene that really hit me was the scene of the screaming face, at 51:02 from Chapter 13, Chickens. When I first saw the screaming face, I instantly thought of art. Youre probably thinking why I thought of art right? Well, it’s because during my school years especially throughout year. 10 and 11, majority of my artwork consisted of screaming faces. It signified the pain and the struggles that come with life, it signified the struggles I went through with depression and anxiety, it explained so much I can’t explain with words. At the time art was my emotional outlet and that scene registered with me so well. Seeing that screaming face in motion gave me goose bumps because even without the explanation through words, the pain was so clear. But that face didn’t just mean pain, it meant more and so I started think about how maybe it signified how everything was moving at such a fast pace, how industrialisation was and is taking over our lives and maybe it’s time to slow it down. To keep it short, it explained the meaning of â€Å"enough is enough†. Looking at the scene of the screaming face took me back to the chapter at 38:26, Subway Riders/Monk With Bell, this chapter had two contrasting figures one of which were the subway riders who seemed so fast paced, so rushed all the time whilst at the same time we had the Monk with the bell who was so serene, so in tune with his own mind and soul that things happening around him had no effect. But maybe at the same time these two things were not so far off from each other but led to the same feeling of loneliness. The facial expressions of the subway riders seemed so grim and the actions of the monk felt so slow and so untouched with what was going on. No doubt, there was a connection between the two, whether it was a contrast of acts or a uniform emotion. The last two chapters that held a place in my heart were the chapters of Calcutta Foragers/Homeless (51:36) and Street Travelers/Buto Dance (1:02:07) but first lets talk about Calcutta Foragers/Homeless, this scene wasn’t about capitalism, it wasn’t about communism nor was it an ideology. This was the lack of any ideology; it was (excuse my language) what happens when people stop giving a shit. I know these are two different things but it boils down to the same problem. The only time depression gets bad is when you stop caring and the same goes for the Calcutta foragers and the homeless, they’re at the place they’re at because the country stopped caring. Not caring is the key to destruction. Now, lets move on to the chapter of Street Travelers/Buto Dance, in this scene we saw prostitutes. These prostitutes looked so dead, so numb. They looked as though there was no point in looking for the positives anymore. .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5 , .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5 .postImageUrl , .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5 , .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5:hover , .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5:visited , .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5:active { border:0!important; } .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5:active , .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5 .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uca0335318b38e4091a96aaa33ec4fdb5:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Original Dracula movie EssayIt signified the slow decline in the human race. Overall, we saw that all of this was happening after the development of countries and maybe this signifies that, the more we have doesn’t mean happiness nor does the less we have signify sadness. Before the scenes of decline we saw the scenes where there were tribes chanting with so much energy who seemed so full of life but they didn’t have much compared to what we have today. This film shows us the irony of industrialisation, the material beauty of the world we live in but with that we’re seeing people with faces of a loss in true happiness. Our world is so cruel yet so beautiful at the same time and such a sorrow is called life. The true power of this film was the fact that we all saw it differently, it was so confusing because there were so many ways in which we could interpret it and that was the true beauty of it, that was what made it worthwhile. The film portrayed different messages for everyone and for me that was depression, pain and the struggle of going through my teenage years, the changes in emotions and the changes happening everyday.

The eNotes Blog RELAX. The World Ended in 634BCE

RELAX. The World Ended in 634BCE If you are stressing because there is not a single bed-and-breakfast in  Bugarach, France (purportedly the only place in the world safe from the predicted Mayan apocalypse of 2012), relax.   For a variety of reasons, the world is NOT going to end tomorrow. December 21, 2012, has been ballyhooed for years as the date the world will end. Fin. Finito. Thats all folks. And Im not paying that cable bill either. Except that it wont be. The list of Yep-thats-it. The-world-has-become-as-evil-as-it-possibly-can-be-and-____________(your god here)-has-HAD-ENOUGH is a loooooooooooooooooooong one, folks. Better get crackin on buying that gift for your aunt, because no one is gonna give you an eternal excuse.   Here is a brief list of the various We Are DOOMED! scenarios, all come and gone: 634 BCE and Some Pissed-Off Eagles Many Romans feared that the city would be destroyed in the 120th year of its founding. There was a myth that 12 eagles had revealed to  Romulus  a mystical number representing the lifetime of Rome, and some early Romans hypothesized that each eagle represented 10 years. 1st Century, Early Christians Some first-century Christians expected Jesus  to return within one generation of his death. According to some scholars,  Paul the Apostle was one of these. 375-400 CE,  Martin of Tours Stated that the world would end before 400. Writing There is no doubt that the Antichrist has already been born. Firmly established already in his early years, he will, after reaching maturity, achieve supreme power. 500 CE,  Hippolytus of Rome,Sextus Julius Africanus,Irenaeus All three predicted Jesus would return in the year 500. January 1, 1000:  Pope Sylvester II The  Millenium Apocalypse. Various Christians predicted the end of the world on this date, including  Pope Sylvester II. Riots in Europe. Panicky Europeans, 1346-51 The  black plague  spreading across Europe was interpreted by many as the sign of the end of times. 1656,  Various Christians   Theres always been a lot of monkeying around with numbers, with sects swearing that they have figured out the secret formula (yeahriiiight. we still dont know what, precisely, the secret spices are in KFC). Anyhoo. [s]ome Christians believed the world would end this year, as 1656 was the number of years between Creation and the Great Flood in the Bible. 1697,  Cotton Mather Well-known for his love of a good prank (kidding), [t]his Puritan minister predicted the world would end this year. After the prediction failed, he revised the date of the End two more times. (Okay.. this is getting tedious. There are literally dozens more but in the interest of time, and of course, our imminent demise, lets fast forward to the twentieth century). Feb. 4, 1962: Psychic Jeane Dixon Predicted a planetary alignment on this day was to bring destruction to the world. 1975, Jehovahs Witnesses In 1966, Jehovahs Witnesses estimated it had been 6000 years since mans creation; therefore, in the fall of 1975   it would be appropriate for Christs thousand-year reign to begin. These claims were repeated throughout the late 1960. In 1974, they reaffirmed their belief that there was just a short time remaining before the wicked worlds end. Oct/Nov 1982:   Pat Robertson, Evangelical Pastor In late 1976, Robertson predicted that the end of the world was coming in October or November 1982. (Well, that  was  the year of my first date, an event many wouldve predicted would bring the world to an end so perhaps a little leeway for ol Pat). April 29, 1987:   Leland Jensen, Halleys Comet Jensen predicted that Halleys Comet would be pulled into Earths orbit on April 29, 1988, causing widespread destruction. July, 1999: Nostradamus   A prediction attributed to Nostradamus stating the King of Terror would come from the sky in 1999 and seven months led to fears of the end. Annnnnnnnnnnd Presenting Despite All Historical Evidence and Obvious Fallacies to the Contrary! THE MAYANS! The so-called  Mayan apocalypse  at the start of the  14th baktun. The Earth is destroyed by an  asteroid,  Nibiru, or some other interplanetary object; an  alien invasion; or a  supernova. Good night, all. Unless I am destroyed by aliens or burned to a crisp by a supernova, Ill see you next week with some elegant toasts for the New Year, in which, surely, there will be predictions that all of us will become toast.

Quotes by Comedian and Actress Mae West

Quotes by Comedian and Actress Mae West Mae West was best known as a comedian and actress whose bawdy plays and movies were full of double entendres and attracted the attention of industry censors. Less well known is her role as writer in many productions. Her film career- mainly at Paramount in the 1930s- seemed to stop in 1943, but she returned in the 1970s for cult classic Myra Breckinridge and Sextette. Selected Mae West Quotations I believe in censorship. I made a fortune out of it. If I asked for a cup of coffee, someone would search for the double meaning. I wrote the story myself. Its all about a girl who lost her reputation but never missed it. When Im good, Im very good. When Im bad, Im better. Too much of a good thing can be wonderful. Its hard to be funny when you have to be clean. Im a woman of very few words, but lots of action. I generally avoid temptation unless I cant resist it. It isnt what I do, but how I do it. It isnt what I say, but how I say it, and how I look when I do it and say it. Ill try anything once, twice if I like it, three times to make sure. When choosing between two evils, I always like to try the one Ive never tried before. Marriage is a great institution, but Im not ready for an institution yet. I used to be Snow White, but I drifted. Why dont you come on up and see me sometime- when Ive got nothin on but the radio. Why dont you come up sometime and see me? Im home every evening. Come up. Ill tell your fortune. Ah, you can be had. Lifes just a merry-go-round. Come on up. You might get a brass ring. Shes the kind of girl who climbed the ladder of success wrong by wrong. When women go wrong, men go right after them. There are no good girls gone wrong, just bad girls found out. Is that a banana in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me? It is better to be looked over than overlooked. Keep a diary, and someday itll keep you. To err is human, but it feels divine. Love conquers all things except poverty and toothache. Ive been rich and Ive been poor. Believe me, rich is better. Sex is emotion in motion. Virtue has its own reward, but no sale at the box office. Those who are easily shocked should be shocked more often. I like my clothes to be tight enough to show Im a woman, but loose enough to show Im a lady. Youre never too old to become younger. I like restraint, if it doesnt go too far. Im the lady who works at Paramount all day... and Fox all night. I never worry about diets. The only carrots that interest me are the number you get in a diamond. A dame that knows the ropes isnt likely to get tied up. Love thy neighbor- and if he happens to be tall, debonair, and devastating, it will be that much easier. Its all right for a perfect stranger to kiss your hand as long as hes perfect. Its not the men in my life that count, its the life in my men. Every man I meet wants to protect me. I cant figure out what from. A man in the house is worth two in the street. A girl in the convertible is worth five in the phone book. A hard man is good to find. Ten men waiting for me at the door? Send one of them home, Im tired. Give a man a free hand and hell run it all over you. A man can be short and dumpy and getting bald but if he has fire, women will like him. An ounce of performance is worth pounds of promises. Dont keep a man guessing too long- hes sure to find the answer somewhere else. Look your best- who said love is blind? Flattery will get you everywhere. Ive been things and seen places. Im no angel, but Ive spread my wings a bit. The score never interested me, only the game. Men are my hobby. If I ever got married Id have to give it up. So many men... so little time. I only like two kinds of men- domestic and imported. I only have yes men around me. Who needs no men? Save a boyfriend for a rainy day- and another, in case it doesnt rain. Some men are all right in their place- if they only knew the right places! I like a man whos good, but not too good... for the good die young, and I hate a dead one. I feel like a million tonight. But one at a time. Men are easy to get but hard to keep. Men? Sure, Ive known lots of them. But I never found one I liked well enough to marry. Besides, Ive always been busy with my work. Marriage is a career in itself and to make a success of it youve got to keep working at it. So until I can give the proper amount of time to marriage, Ill stay single. His mother should have thrown him out and kept the stork. Hes the kind of man a woman would have to marry to get rid of. Dont marry a man to reform him. Thats what reform schools are for. Opportunity knocks for every man, but you have to give a woman a ring. It takes two to get one in trouble. Too many girls follow the line of least resistance, but a good line is hard to resist. Good women are no fun. The only good woman I can recall in history was  Betsy Ross. And all she ever made was a flag. Good sex is like good Bridge. If you dont have a good partner, youd better have a good hand. Diamonds is my career. When it comes to finances, remember that there are no withholding taxes on the wages of sin. No gold-digging for me. I take diamonds! We may be off the gold standard someday. You can do what you want, but saving love doesnt bring any interest. Any time you got nothing to do and lots of time to do it, come on up. Anything worth doing is worth doing slowly. Kiss and make up- but too much makeup has ruined many a kiss. Brains are an asset to the woman in love whos smart enough to hide em. Some women pick men to marry- and others pick them to pieces. Say what you want about long dresses, but they cover a multitude of shins. Let men see whats coming to them, and women will get whats coming to them. Cultivate your curves- they may be dangerous but they wont be avoided. I didnt discover curves; I only uncovered them. The curve is more powerful than the sword. Ive been in more laps than a napkin. Id like to see Paris before I die. Philadelphia will do. I see youre a man with ideals. I better be going before youve still got them. Women with pasts interest men because men hope that history will repeat itself. Dont ever make the same mistake twice, unless it pays. Right now I think censorship is necessary; the things theyre doing and saying in films right now just shouldnt be allowed. Theres no dignity anymore and I think thats very important. The best way to behave is to misbehave. You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough. Quote collection assembled by Jone Johnson Lewis.
